A United Airlines flight bound for Denver experienced a dramatic incident on Monday, July 8th, 2024, when it lost a wheel during takeoff from Los Angeles International Airport (LAX).

Uneventful Takeoff Turns Dramatic

United Airlines flight UA1001 from Los Angeles, CA to Denver, CO

United Airlines flight UA1001, a Boeing 757-224 aircraft, departed from LAX runway 25R at 6:53 PDT. Shortly after takeoff, a wheel detached from the landing gear and fell from the aircraft. The flight crew maintained control of the plane and continued the journey to Denver.

Safe Landing in Denver

Despite the missing wheel, the flight continued uneventfully and landed safely at Denver International Airport (DIA) approximately 1 hour and 53 minutes later. All 174 passengers and 7 crew members onboard landed safely.

Investigation Underway

United Airlines has recovered the lost wheel and launched a full investigation to determine the cause of the incident. This is the second such event for the airline in recent months. In March 2024, another United Airlines flight departing LAX lost a wheel during takeoff.
