FAA Issues Security Advisory for Flights Over Venezuela

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) issued a security advisory on Friday warning of a “potentially hazardous situation” in the Maiquetía Flight Information Region (FIR), designated as SVZM, which encompasses all Venezuelan airspace and portions of the Caribbean.
The advisory, published as NOTAM A0012/25, urges civil aviation operators to exercise heightened caution when flying within the region. According to the FAA, a deteriorating security environment combined with increased military activity in or around Venezuela now poses elevated risks to aircraft at all altitudes.

Mandatory Operational Requirements for Operators
As part of the advisory, the FAA has introduced a mandatory 72-hour advance notification requirement for any planned flight activity within the affected airspace.
Operators must submit detailed flight information—including route, aircraft registration, operator contact information, and schedule—via email to [email protected].
This requirement applies to all U.S. civil aviation operators and takes effect immediately.
